One of the Most Inspiring Authors: Shirley Cheng
I'm very pleased to meet Shirley and to share her testimony with you.
Christian authors have a force that drives them, and Shirley is certainly no
exception to that. Her story is both touching and amazing, even to one
who believes we can do all things in Christ. She has taken what little
the world offered her and turned it over to God. Out of that, comes
nothing less than a work of art.
Although I'm blind,
I can see far and wide;
even though I'm disabled,
I can climb high mountains.
Let the ropes of
hope in God
haul you high!

Jehovah God Almighty has been the most essential part of my life in
many different ways, and I am more than grateful to Him for everything
He has gifted me. I am constantly reminded of His infinite love upon
every waking minute.
First and foremost, I am immensely grateful for the life He has bestowed
upon me. It is one of the two greatest presents I have ever received. I
am simply so honored to be alive; I am so honored that He has chosen me
to live, so I want to show Him how much I truly cherish and love the
life He gave me. Because of my life, I am so privileged to know,
discover, and experience all the wonderful things life has to offer. I
am able to laugh; I am able to weep. Without my existence, I would be
able to do none of these. True, I have lost the ability to walk and see,
but I am not scornful. Instead, I am grateful to having owned these
powers before (I walked for only one year in my lifetime, and I lost my
eyesight at age seventeen). I am still able to hear, talk, and type; so
I utilize these gifts to become an award-winning author, poet,
motivational speaker, and self-empowerment expert, and to continue
loving the life I live.
The other most precious gift, which is no less than the gift
of my own life, is my beloved mother Juliet Cheng. She is the
cornerstone and light of my life; the foundation of my
happiness, strength, and success, besides God, of course. She
has saved my life numerous times from the grasp of death.

I would have been long gone if it had not been for her. Maternal
love is definitely the greatest love that God has ever created,
and I will be forever grateful to Him for this wondrous jewel. |
Besides blessing us with our lives, God has played a major role in
both my mother's and my lives. We have deep unwavering faith in Him, and
it is this faith that has allowed us to take one sure step at a time
forward, as we know He is always there, loving us, guiding us, and
supporting us. For instance, faith in Him had given my mother great
stamina and courage to fight for my life during two custody cases. She
lost custody of me twice in America only after disagreeing with doctors'
recommended treatments--treatments that could have sent me to my grave,
or worse, paralyze me. (In America, parents risk losing custody of their
children forever if they disagree with doctors' recommended treatments
or even when they want a second opinion.) She knew she would win both
cases because she found strength in Him and that she had the power of
reasons in her hand.
Having the knowledge that there is a Creator, I know life is not about
the worldly aspect but all about the spiritual realm. Suffering on Earth
is to strengthen our faith. Challenges and obstacles are exercising
machines for your spirit. I believe God has much more prepared for those
who can endure the trials and tribulations here, so we can be strong
enough to receive an everlasting life of love and happiness under His
mighty and just rule. Therefore, I concentrate on the spiritual aspects
of life: faith, love, values, hope, gratitude, and many other priceless
commodities that everyone needs to embrace. If we only achieve those of
the worldly, such as wealth and fame, what we gain will only die along
with us. On the other hand, if we welcome a life of love and values, we
will leave an enduring legacy.
Why should I resist all the wonders of life just because a negativity
decides to bump into me? Compared to the entire universe and all the
beauties it contains, my problems are tiny! God gave me my life so I can
enjoy it to its fullest, and this is exactly what I will always do.
Although I'm blind, I can see far and wide; even though I'm disabled, I
can climb high mountains. Let the ropes of hope in God haul you high!
