Christian Commandments from Jesus Christ
Do we really need Christian commandments, or do we need a personal
relationship with God? If the answer is Christian commandments, then
we're in big trouble, since the body of Christ can't seem to agree on what
they actually are. These are some serious questions that many are struggling
to answer.
Jesus Christ gave us a big clue in this discourse with the religious
leaders of His day:
- Mat 22:35-40 Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked him a
question, tempting him, and saying, Master, which is the great
commandment in the law? Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the
Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all
thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is
like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself
.
- On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets.
If you love the Lord with all thy heart and all thy soul and all thy
mind, you will not need the Ten Commandments. If you love your
neighbor as yourself, you will not be stealing from them, coveting their
wives or sleeping with them, lying to them or about them, etc.
Would you do those things to yourself?
Love the Lord thy God...
It's extremely difficult to fall in love with someone who calls you a
lying, adulterous thief, right? (read
more) So forget what you've been told by old-time-religion preachers
and learn to love God by discovering how much He loves you. Once
you understand His love for you, you will love Him back.
Open your Bible and ask Him specifically for the truth about Him.
You will understand that the Christian commandments are completely about
love. Love God, let Him lead. Walk in the spirit and that
will take care of the list of things to do and the list of things not to
do.
- Mar 12:29-34 And Jesus answered him, The first of all the
commandments is, Hear, O Israel; The Lord our God is one Lord: And
thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all
thy soul, and with all thy mind, and with all thy strength: this is
the first commandment. And the second is like, namely this, Thou
shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment
greater than these.
And the scribe said unto him, Well, Master, thou hast said the
truth: for there is one God; and there is none other but he: And to
love him with all the heart, and with all the understanding, and
with all the soul, and with all the strength, and to love his
neighbour as himself, is more than all whole burnt offerings and
sacrifices.
And when Jesus saw that he answered discreetly, he said unto him,
Thou art not far from the kingdom of God. And no man after that
durst ask him any question.
Notice the one who understood was not far from the kingdom of God.
Do you want to be near the kingdom of God or do you want your list of
Christian commandments? Read Galatians, chapter 3. This chapter
brings frightening truth to Christians who refuse to let go of the law.
- Gal 3:5 He therefore that ministereth to you the Spirit, and
worketh miracles among you, doeth he it by the works of the law, or
by the hearing of faith?
