Freedom from Addiction

We gained  freedom from addiction and victory over oppression when Jesus died on the cross.  How is that?  We died with Him.  In step two, we learn to walk the walk of a true believer, without the addictions, without the guilt, without the pain.

The freedom is ours to claim.  It's not that I have overcome all of mine personally, but I look forward to the promises I have in Christ, not behind to the pain laden past that would keep me bound if I let it.

Each day, for the Christian, is a whole new day full of mercy and grace.  If we can but learn to rest in this mercy, rest in Christ, we can then walk worthy of our calling, possessing the freedom from addiction we so desperately seek.
Recommended Reading:  Sit-Walk-Stand by Watchman Nee.  A tiny book packed full of victory, all based on the book of Ephesians.  The second step to freedom is to Walk (In Christ)!  (Step One - The Deliverance Prayer)

Eph 4:1 I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called,

Why do I keep falling over?

Because I keep getting out of my seat.

In Eph 4:1, Paul refers to himself as a prisoner OF the Lord.  He was in prison for preaching the gospel, but here, he refers to Jesus as the officer who holds Him captive.  He is a prisoner OF the Lord.

He has chosen Jesus as His king.

The fourth chapter of Ephesians tells us how we should walk, worthy of a relationship with God.  Naturally, we look at the list of things we can no longer do and focus on trying to lose our bad habits.  Naturally, we fall and feel unworthy and condemned.  The very moment we feel condemnation, we are out of our seat.

Don't focus on the list and don't focus on gaining freedom from addiction.  Focus on your seat - a prisoner of the Lord.  Unnaturally or Supernaturally, in Christ, you are seated in the heavenly realms, next to your Father God.  A seat earned not by your own means, but gained without merit by believing that you died and were resurrected in Christ.

You Died.

Eph 4:22 That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

You Were Resurrected.

Eph 4:23 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind;

You are Holy and Blameless in Christ.

Eph 4:24 And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

Eph 5:1 Be ye therefore followers of God, as dear children;

Eph 5:2 And walk in love, as Christ also hath loved us, and hath given himself for us an offering and a sacrifice to God for a sweet smelling savour.

The real steps to freedom from addiction are:

First Step: Take your seat in the "heavenlies."  Realize, that in Christ, the old you died almost 2000 years ago and your problems, guilt and pain died with you.

Second Step:  Walk.   How do we walk if we are dead?  Christ walks through us.  Then, we walk as a dear child of God, not as someone who is trying to become a dear child.  Stop trying to do Christianity and Be Christian.

Third Step:  Stand up and claim your victory, as dearly loved children of the the Most High God.  No weapons formed against me shall prosper!  You already have freedom from addiction and oppression!  Perhaps you simply lack the Biblical Wisdom and understanding you need to live free.
