Are Pills Healing Anxiety?

Is there a pill prescribed for healing anxiety?  I know of many pills that cover it up while they dilate your pupils, but I don't know of any pills that are actually healing anxiety.

As a matter of fact, these mind altering pills are highly addictive.  Take them if you must, but be ever so careful that you don't end up creating more anxiety through the decisions you make while under the influence of pills.

Freedom from Fear

Since anxiety is caused by fear, then freedom from fear must be the right prescription for healing anxiety.

Think about this for a moment.  What is most important to you?  Is it money or your career?  Is it your children or your spouse?  Is it your parents?  If you answered yes to any of these, then you have reason to fear.  These are all important parts of life, but they cannot be number one in your list of priorities.

Why not?  Because, you can lose any of them at the drop of a hat and you know it!  That is why you are afraid.  (That is not really healing anxiety for you is it?  I'm sorry, but I'm trying to make a point, so stay with me.)

The Prescription for Healing Anxiety

Focus on these scriptures, very prayerfully for a few days.  Matt 6:19-33 (These verses are not in chronological order. They are in order of importance.)

  • 19 "Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy, and where thieves break in and steal.

Most people believe that they can go about their business, focusing on their job and families, and turn their problems over to God ever so often.  After they've turned over their problems, they turn and take control again.  Then, they wonder why they still have problems.

The answer is this.  Instead of just handing your requests and problems over to God, make Him the most important part of your life.  Crawl up in His lap and be secure, because He is not going anywhere.  You will always have Him.

The more you know Him, the more you will realize that you can live without all of the other pieces of your life, if you have to, no matter how important they may be.  Get this revelation in your heart because it is the prescription for healing anxiety.

  • 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moth and rust do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Here we go again.  Change your focus!

  • 22 "The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. 23 But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!

Change your Priorities.

  • 24 "No one can serve two masters. Either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve both God and Money.

Then and only then, you will have freedom from your fears.

  • 33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. 34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own.

Fear does not come from God.  He promises protection, healing and provision.

  • 25 "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? 26 Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? 27 Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?
  • 28 "And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. 29 Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. 30 If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, O you of little faith? 31 So do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' 32 For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.

Let's Get Honest

Do you see this happening in today's world?  I'm afraid not in most cases.  So is God a liar?

No. People just refuse to let Him do the work.  They refuse to believe His word and they refuse to give up their control.  They refuse to make Him their top priority.

As long as we insist on controlling our own lives, we are in trouble.  We'll make mistakes, we'll suffer the consequences and we'll pay the cost.  You will not find any of this healing anxiety in your life.

When we let go of our control, and change our priorities, we will find the right prescription for healing anxiety.
