True Spirituality

What do you think of when you hear the term Spirituality? Many think of fortune tellers, witchcraft, channels, etc. Some think of ghosts and shadows on the wall. Some think the term is rather flakey and actually deny or doubt its existence altogether.

Far too few think of it as being the very basis of our existence and the absolute goal of Christianity. Even fewer are those that understand that they, themselves, are actually living, breathing spirits. Strange concept?  Check this out.

Who is Rob Bell?

The basic definition of the word spirit is wind or air; breath or to blow. It can also be defined as energy, not physical energy, but the energy inside a person that makes them who they are. It is, in a sense, our nature; that still small voice that lies within, making us act out in certain ways. Click here to read about the impact or manifestation of the spirit in my life.

Some call it a soul, but according to Watchman Nee in "The Spiritual Man," the two are different. Nee explains that the spirit is the source that feeds the soul. The soul determines how the body will act. The Bible definitely backs this up in several scriptures by bringing to our attention the body, soul AND the spirit.

Here is just one example: Heb 4:12-For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.

So, in short, spirituality is getting in touch with your inner self.  More importantly, it is changing what your inner self is made of.

What's the point? If you do not have a healthy spirit, you are probably experiencing a lot of stress, anxiety, depression, perhaps even issues with addictions to food, chemicals or spending. Maybe you are even taking depression medication. Or, maybe you just feel unhappy much of the time.

Are you always looking for something better? Does the grass always seem greener on the other side to you? Do you ever wonder what your purpose in life really is? If you can answer yes to any of these questions, you are lacking something inside.

Dive deeper with us. First, learn the difference between religion and spirituality. Then, let's learn how to achieve and maintain a healthy inner being.
